Valve isn’t rushing out a brand-new Steam Deck successor just yet, but they have an interesting treat on the horizon. Get ready for the limited edition Steam Deck OLED, decked out in a sleek white look.
This special model, aptly named the “Steam Deck OLED: Limited Edition White,” is essentially your typical 1TB model but comes dressed in new white and gray colors. It does come with a slightly higher price tag of $679, which is a $30 increase over the standard version. You’ll be able to snag one from Monday, November 18.
Adding a touch of elegance, the Limited Edition White Deck also includes a white carrying case and a microfiber cleaning cloth to keep it looking its best.
Valve has dabbled with colors before, like when they released a limited edition with a smoky translucent shell—a popular choice that sadly had some aesthetic crack issues. Now, they’re rolling out the white version pretty much wherever Steam Deck is available. This includes the United States, Canada, the UK, Europe, Australia, and through their partner, Komodo, in places like Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and South Korea. The company promises to allocate stock evenly across these regions.
To combat scalpers, Valve is putting their foot down by limiting orders to just one white Steam Deck per account. Plus, your Steam account must have at least one purchase made before November 2024.
Valve mentioned in a press statement that they’re keen to see how this new limited edition fares, as this will guide their future decisions on potential new color releases.
If the white hue piques your interest but you don’t necessarily need the limited edition, don’t worry. Companies such as Jsaux and dbrand offer various backplates and skins. But for those who prefer the direct-from-Factory aesthetic, you may want to grab one of these once they’re out, as supplies are limited.
Looking ahead, Valve hints that beyond color options and software updates, exciting developments for the Steam Deck and other hardware are on the horizon.
The pictures give a hint of nostalgia, blending the classic aesthetics of a Wii U and an iPod. It’ll be interesting to see if this fresh color scheme entices current owners to consider an upgrade.
