As Honkai: Star Rail gears up to introduce the Amphoreus chapter in its anticipated Version 3.0 update, HoYoverse is ambitiously broadening its multiverse landscape. Early previews hinted at Amphoreus, a planet inspired by Greek mythology, prominently featuring the Chrysos Heirs. This intriguing group is set on a mission to “Flame-Chase” or retrieve the Coreflames of gods. For veteran HoYoverse players, this concept rings a bell, connecting back to the Flame-Chase elements found in Honkai Impact 3rd.
Since its launch, Honkai: Star Rail hasn’t shied away from reimagining beloved characters from other HoYoverse titles, like Seele and Bronya. Thus, incorporating the renowned Flame-Chasers from Honkai Impact 3rd into the Amphoreus storyline seems like a natural progression. What’s truly captivating is pondering how Honkai: Star Rail’s interpretation of the Chrysos Heirs will distinguish itself from the original Flame-Chasers in Honkai Impact 3rd.
Amphoreus is depicted in the Golden Epic trailer as a world plunged into darkness after a brutal war between gods and mortals. As a flicker of hope, a prophecy emerges, demanding the Chrysos Heirs to awaken Amphoreus’ dormant Coreflames. So far, only eight of the twelve known leaders of this mission have been revealed as future playable characters in Honkai: Star Rail. Their task, reminiscent of the Flame-Chase, clearly aligns them with the Flame-Chasers from Honkai Impact 3rd.
Detailing a bit more on the Flame-Chasers, they’re a group of 13 MANTISes, before, part of an old anti-Honkai squad called MOTH. They rose from the ashes of an event known as the Tragedy of Binding, which decimated most MANTIS warriors, until the survivors, led by Elysia, emerged. These super-soldiers had genes of Honkai Beasts, with the mandate to purge their world occupied by a pervasive plague. Their ranking is based on their fighting prowess and a few other metrics.
Of these 13, just 10 are playable in Honkai Impact 3rd. Interestingly, many fans speculate that each of Honkai: Star Rail’s Chrysos Heirs might parallel a Flame-Chaser, though the character rosters of both groups differ extensively. A direct reference exists, however, with the character Phainon in Honkai: Star Rail drawing clear inspiration from Kevin Kaslana, the Flame-Chasers’ leader. The Golden Epic trailer further teased a pink-haired character resembling Elysia, hinting that familiar faces might find a place in the Amphoreus storyline.
As fans eagerly await the potential crossover impact on Honkai: Star Rail’s narrative, aligning it with the Flame-Chasers storyline seems promising. The Chrysos Heirs are primed for significant roles in revitalizing Amphoreus, much like the Flame-Chasers’ mission to rid their own world of Honkai. This time, they might be joined by Honkai: Star Rail’s Trailblazer and the Astral Express Crew, potentially uncovering a Stellaron lurking within Amphoreus.
With less than two months until Version 3.0’s release, fans can get a taste of this unique collaboration in the “HonkaixHonkai” event debuting on November 28. Given HoYoverse’s commitment to crossover content, it’s conceivable that we’ll see a grander multiverse venture with characters spanning Honkai: Star Rail, Honkai Impact 3rd, Genshin Impact, and perhaps even Zenless Zone Zero in the future.
