A lot of excitement surrounds the sequel to Hollow Knight, Silksong, and it seems fans are eager to hear any scrap of news about its progress. Recently, Team Cherry had to step in and reassure everyone that the game is indeed still on the way. Matthew Griffin, who handles marketing and publishing for the studio, responded to a curious tweet, affirming that Silksong is “real, progressing, and will release.”
Silksong was first announced in 2019 and was meant to be an expansion for Hollow Knight. However, the project evolved into a standalone title. Since that initial announcement, information has been sparse. The silence has been nearly deafening after a trailer shown during the June 2022 Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase suggested a Game Pass release by June 2023—a deadline that came and went, leaving fans without clarity.
This lack of updates has led to some odd theories within the Silksong community. One such notion involved Team Cherry’s William Pellen when he changed his Twitter profile picture to an image of a cake. Now, that might sound ordinary, but a reverse image search showed the picture was uploaded on April 2nd, 2024, sparking wild speculation among fans.
Incredibly, this reach led some to believe Silksong might make an appearance during a supposed Nintendo Switch 2 event scheduled for April 2nd, 2025. But, hold on, it seems this theory has been debunked by a Silksong YouTuber as pure nonsense and wishful thinking.
Yeah, it’s a bit of a ride, but as a fellow enthusiast eagerly waiting to get my hands on Silksong, I can’t deny I get wrapped up in the speculation game too. Anything to keep that flicker of hope alive, right?
At least we’re not as extreme as the Star Citizen community. Over $778 million in funding? That’s another level of dedication.
