Star Wars Outlaws: Wild Card – Expert Strategies for Success at Kessel Sabacc

The Star Wars Outlaws saga continues with its first story pack, "Wild Card," now available for Xbox Series X|S. To dive into this new adventure, players must complete both the Gunsmith quest and The High Roller quest featuring Lando Calrissian.

In "Wild Card," players will guide Kay Vess, who’s been tasked by Governor Thorden of Toshara, to infiltrate and triumph at a high-stakes Kessel Sabacc game to claim a prized reward. Yet, there’s a twist: a clandestine game awaits in the shadows. This Sabacc showdown is just one of many escapades in Star Wars Outlaws: Wild Card. However, gaining entry isn’t straightforward, as it’s by invitation only, prompting Kay to rely on her cunning and charm to secure a seat.

The essence of Kessel Sabacc in Wild Card is familiar: you battle it out with adversaries using blood and sand cards, aiming to form the winning hand. Each match consists of a few rounds, and the moment you deplete your chips, you’re done.

This version of Kessel Sabacc adds a twist to the familiar game mechanics. Hosted by Protocol Droid EY-E9 aboard the Morenia casino cruiser, the event features slightly altered house rules. Notably, shift tokens, which are typically used to gain an advantage or upset an opponent’s strategy, are prohibited to ensure fair play for everyone.

While overt cheats are out, subtle cheating remains feasible if executed deftly. Star Wars Outlaws aficionados have three main tricks up their sleeves: magnetic dice, Lando Calrissian’s clever double draw technique, and Nix’s spying talents. However, this time around, Nix will face challenges operating in a bustling, open environment. But don’t worry, he’s got a new card up his sleeve—literally. Nix can plant cards on others, hoping EY-E9 will catch them in the act and eject them from the game.

In Wild Card, remember that other competitors might also try to outwit the system with their own cheats. Kay must remain vigilant, observing her foes’ behaviors and chats, to catch them and discreetly alert EY-E9, often resulting in their expulsion.

The game dynamics on the Morenia cruiser also make things more interesting. Unlike the typical four-player setup, this time you’re up against five other players. EY-E9 oversees the proceedings, narrating for the audience and keeping a watchful eye.

Double Draw

Mastery of the double draw, a skill taught by Lando, is pivotal, according to Machin. Players often use it to pull a good card and then discreetly discard the extra. Machin suggests employing the double draw alongside Nix’s new card-planting skill instead. This way, you not only enhance your hand but also have a chance to eliminate an opponent.

Gather Intel

Machin advises players to explore the cruiser, Morenia, thoroughly. Along the way, look out for clues about the other players’ methods of cheating. “Gathering intel on your competitors is crucial; it’ll allow you to expose them when the game heats up,” says Machin.

Have a Good Reputation

Onboard Morenia, you’ll encounter various syndicates invited by EY-E9. These groups add depth to the game and are key in paving your way to the Sabacc game. Machin underscores the importance of maintaining a good rapport with these syndicates, as it makes navigation and progression smoother.

Take Your Time

Patience is a virtue here, Machin notes. With multiple factors in play, don’t be hasty. A thoughtful, measured approach pays off, especially considering the limited chips and extended number of rounds. Keeping a close eye on the ongoing table chatter can also offer clues to enhance your strategy.
