Sony made headlines today by revealing that they’re dropping the price of the PSVR 2 to $400, starting next month. This comes as a significant cut from its original price when it launched nearly two years ago at $550. Fans have been watching closely, especially since the recent State of Play didn’t mention any such changes.
In an unexpected move, this new pricing won’t just apply to the standard PSVR bundle—which includes the headset, dual Sense controllers, and headphones. It also affects the Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle, initially introduced at $600 back in February 2023.
Worth noting, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen significant sales on PSVR 2. As recently as November 2024, Sony slashed the price of the Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle to a mere $350, hinting that even bigger savings might be on the horizon.
Despite flaunting an impressive lineup for the PSVR 2, featuring hits like Skydance’s Behemoth, Metro Awakening VR, and Alien: Rogue Incursion, Sony hasn’t fully committed to the platform. Their latest announcements spotlight exciting new games such as Aces of Thunder, Dreams of Another, Hitman World of Assassination, and The Midnight Walk, but their first-party contributions have been modest.
Unlike the original 2016 PSVR, which boasted a range of titles like Astro Bot Rescue Mission and Blood & Truth, PSVR 2’s exclusive lineup remains thin. So far, we’ve seen Horizon Call of the Mountain and VR modes for popular games like Gran Turismo 7, Resident Evil Village, and Resident Evil 4 Remake.
However, in a bid to further appeal to gamers, last August Sony introduced a $60 PC Adapter that allows PSVR 2 to connect to a VR-ready PC. This opens the door to play SteamVR titles such as Half-Life: Alyx and Fallout 4 VR. This move seems to be part of Sony’s gradual strategy to expand PSVR 2’s reach beyond just the PS5.
As we look ahead, the potential for further price drops could echo the success seen over the holiday season, drawing in more PS5 gamers eager to explore a deep catalog of games. If discounts continue at the same rate as Black Friday’s 42%, the PSVR 2 could be available for just $232—turning it into a must-have gift come holiday time.
Oh, and a quick update for our European readers: the PSVR 2’s new price will be €450, not the previously reported €550.
