The team behind the ambitious Skyblivion project, which aims to bring The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion into the world of Skyrim using its engine, has reached a major milestone. They’ve completed the landscaping of every region within their reimagined map of Cyrodiil.
Although this achievement is significant, there’s still quite a bit of work ahead before they hit their targeted release window in 2025. But it’s a promising step forward in the journey of this expansive mod.
On social media, the development team shared, “With the Niben Basin and Valley wrapped up, every part of Cyrodiil’s landscape has at least seen an initial pass. Our next move is to refine all areas to meet our enhanced standards.” Just last month, in an update video, they noted that the only piece missing from their nearly completed world map was the Nibenay region along Cyrodiil’s eastern border. That’s now done and dusted.
Yet, there’s more on the agenda than just beautifying the landscape. According to the team’s latest updates, further technical aspects like navmeshing need finishing touches. This is crucial to ensure that NPCs don’t get endlessly tangled in the environment but instead move with relative freedom—something not always guaranteed in vanilla versions of Skyrim and Oblivion.
In addition to these technical tweaks, developers are also busy crafting interior spaces. Right now, they’re giving priority to designing quest locations that demand more detailed attention compared to more generic interiors. As of last month’s update, work hadn’t yet started on six quests, indicating that this phase is still very much a work in progress.
The Skyblivion team continues to seek additional volunteers with specialized skills to bolster their efforts. If you’re interested, they’re actively welcoming new contributors.
