As January wraps up, Xbox Game Pass is set to say goodbye to Darkest Dungeon and five other games, effectively doubling the number of titles leaving the service this month. It’s definitely a bittersweet moment for subscribers. Despite these farewells, January 2025 has been an exciting month for the platform overall, having introduced 13 new games—the most since July 2024. The next batch of Xbox Game Pass additions should be announced around February 4, so there’s more to look forward to soon.
Typically, Xbox Game Pass cycles out games twice a month, usually around the middle and towards the end. This month saw its mid-month removal on January 15, which included Figment: Journey Into the Mind and Insurgency: Sandstorm, among others. Now, another set is slated for departure today, including Anuchard, Broforce Forever, Darkest Dungeon, Death’s Door, Maquette, and Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem. Among these, Death’s Door stands out as a significant loss, given its high praise, boasting an average rating of 88 and a 99% recommendation rate on OpenCritic.
When it comes to scheduling, Microsoft isn’t upfront about exactly what time games vanish from the service. However, you can usually count on them disappearing by the end of the day. So, if you’re on the West Coast and looking to squeeze in a final playthrough of any of these games—except perhaps the notably lengthy Darkest Dungeon and Death’s Door—you’ve got about 12 hours left.
In a positive twist this month, the Xbox Game Pass library seems to be bouncing back from its recent shrinkage. From August to December 2024, it consistently saw more games leaving than being added. This downward trend reverses in January 2025, with the removal count hitting 12 but making way for a robust addition of 13 new titles. While most were pre-announced, Ninja Gaiden 2 Black arrived as a surprise drop on January 23, following its big reveal at the Xbox Developer Direct 2025.
Looking ahead, the Game Pass library is set to grow again on February 4 with the addition of Far Cry New Dawn. This date also marks when Microsoft’s expected to reveal the first wave of February titles. As of now, Obsidian’s much-anticipated Avowed is already lined up for a February 18 release, ensuring next month starts off strong for subscribers.
