After a remarkable 31-year journey with Sony, Shuhei Yoshida, affectionately known as Shu, is stepping away from his role at PlayStation. The news, although somewhat expected, took many by surprise as it was casually revealed during a PS Blog interview.
The conversation on the PS Blog delved into Yoshida’s impressive career with Sony. Throughout his time, he played a significant role in the launch and success of many hit games, with his reputation soaring particularly while serving as the head of PlayStation’s Worldwide Studios.
In the interview, Yoshida shared, “I have something to announce—I’ll be leaving Sony Interactive Entertainment on January 15, 2025. It feels a bit like announcing a new game release date, something I haven’t done in quite a while,” he chuckled.
Yoshida admitted that the idea of moving on had been on his mind since marking his 30-year milestone with the company. He believes that it’s the right moment for younger talent and fresh perspectives to take the helm in leadership positions.
On Twitter, Yoshida further clarified his plans. While he’s ready to leave PlayStation, he expressed his desire to remain within the gaming industry, though he hasn’t indicated any specific plans just yet.
Playfully addressing his future, Yoshida tweeted, “No, I’d like to stay in the industry 🙂”.
In his parting words, Yoshida reassured fans, saying, “PlayStation is in really good hands. I realized, it’s the right time for me to move on.”
