BioWare, the well-known game developer, now finds itself with a team of fewer than 100 employees. This information comes from a Bloomberg report, which highlights a significant reduction in staff over the past couple of years. Just two years ago, the team was more than 200 strong.
This sharp decrease in personnel is partly due to recent layoffs as the company refines its focus on the upcoming installment of the Mass Effect series. Among those affected by these layoffs are writer Trick Weekes and producer Jenn Cheverie.
Additionally, some employees have been temporarily reassigned to other studios within Electronic Arts (EA). It seems that many thought this would be a short-term arrangement, though the positions have turned out to be more lasting than expected.
Gary McKay, BioWare’s general manager, explained the situation, noting, “At this stage of our project, we don’t need the full studio’s support.” He further reassured that, “We have an incredibly talented team at BioWare, and we’ve been working tirelessly over recent months to find suitable roles within other EA teams for many of our colleagues.”
