PSVR 2’s ‘Ancient Dungeon’ Finally Introduces Multiplayer Co-op Mode

Ancient Dungeon VR, the rogue-lite dungeon crawler that has captured the hearts of many, just rolled out a fantastic update for PSVR 2, introducing multiplayer co-op to the line-up.

Originally released in 2021 on Steam Early Access and via the now-discontinued App Lab for Quest, Ancient Dungeon was initially designed for solo adventurers. It offered over 20 hours of gameplay filled with twisty dungeons and physics-driven battles against blocky wizards, skeletons, and various other adversaries inspired by classic Dungeons & Dragons lore.

Back in mid-2024, the Quest and SteamVR versions of the game thrilled fans with a four-player co-op feature. However, this feature wasn’t available for the PSVR 2 players when it arrived on the platform in December 2023.

But the wait is finally over. The game’s creator, Eric Thullen, has brought the much-anticipated multiplayer update to PSVR 2, allowing teams of up to four to dive into procedurally-generated dungeons, filled with traps and enemies, in an exciting co-op mode.

In a Reddit Q&A session, Thullen mentioned that cross-play isn’t available across the game’s different platforms at the moment. However, he reassured fans that cross-play with Quest and PC VR is on the horizon, slated for a future update.

Ancient Dungeon stands out as one of VR’s indie success stories. It first gained momentum with a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2020, and its extremely popular beta release received over 1,000 reviews, earning an impressive 4.8 out of 5 rating.

Nearly five years down the line, the game continues to evolve with frequent updates, introducing new weapons, cosmetics, insight upgrades, additional dungeon floors, and relics. Thullen and his team are diligently setting all these in place as they work towards the game’s major 1.0 release, which, according to a Steam update, is still a bit off in the future.
