PlayStation Plus subscribers, heads up—there’s a significant change coming your way next year. Sony Interactive Entertainment has revealed that PS4 games are no longer going to be a major perk for subscribers. Instead, these games will only pop up occasionally in the PS Plus Monthly Games and Game Catalog offerings.
In a recent update on the PlayStation Blog, the shift was explained as a reflection of the growing number of players moving to the PS5. Sony is eager to cater to this trend, meaning their online gaming subscription service will soon prioritize the latest generation. Although PS4 games will still make occasional appearances through certain benefits, the official switch to a PS5-focused service is set for January 2026. Don’t worry, if you’ve already claimed PS4 games, they’ll remain in your library without any hiccups.
Adam Michel, who heads up game services at Sony Interactive Entertainment, commented on this transition: “As more of our community enjoys the PS5 and starts choosing PS5 titles from our Monthly Games and Game Catalog, PlayStation Plus is evolving in step. Starting in January 2026, we’ll center our efforts on delivering PS5 titles through these perks. Consequently, PS4 games won’t be a core benefit but might still appear sporadically for Monthly Games and within the Game Catalog. After this date, we could include titles that work on both PS4 and PS5.”
Michel also reassured subscribers, saying, “The PS4 Monthly Games already in your library, courtesy of PlayStation Plus, will remain accessible as long as you’re subscribed. In terms of the Game Catalog, PS4 games will still be on offer until they’re cycled out with our monthly updates.”
