Nintendo has officially announced that pre-orders for the long-awaited Switch 2 will kick off in the United States on April 24. The pricing remains steady, with the base system available at $449.99, while a nifty bundle featuring Mario Kart World will set you back $499.99.
This pre-order period comes after an unexpected delay, originally caused by Nintendo’s need to evaluate potential impacts from tariffs and shifting market landscapes. Consequently, some accessories for the Switch 2 are seeing a price bump. You’ll notice the updated pricing for a pair of Joy-Con 2 controllers, now at $94.99, compared to their initial $89.99 price tag. Similarly, expect to pay a bit more for the Pro Controller, which has climbed from $79.99 to $84.99. Plus, items such as the Switch 2 camera, dock set, wheel set, and charging grips are also seeing price hikes.
Nintendo hasn’t ruled out additional price adjustments, emphasizing that any future changes will hinge on market dynamics. Despite these shifts, the planned launch date remains June 5.
Originally, pre-orders were slated to start on April 9. However, they were postponed due to a coincidental overlap with President Donald Trump’s announcement of broad tariffs on the same day. On April 9, Trump introduced a 90-day hold on many tariffs, though he maintained certain increases on Chinese products.
Meanwhile, the pricing for Nintendo’s flagship games, Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza—which is set to launch on July 17—will remain the same, priced at $79.99 and $69.99 respectively.
In terms of specs, the Switch 2 offers significant enhancements over its predecessor, boasting a larger HDR display, an additional USB Type-C port, and an upgraded Nvidia graphics chip.
Priced at $449.99, the new system is considerably more expensive than the original Nintendo Switch, which debuted at $299.99. This price hike has led to a chorus of fans clamoring for a price drop on social media platforms.
To round off their announcement, Nintendo expressed regret over any inconvenience caused by the recent delays, stating their hopes that the situation would alleviate some uncertainty among their devoted customers.
