Earlier today, FuturLab announced some bittersweet news for fans of PowerWash Simulator’s VR edition—the game’s support on the Quest is coming to an end. In a statement, Kirsty Rigden, FuturLab’s CEO, explained the reasoning behind this decision. Rigden emphasized the studio’s enthusiasm for VR technology, but noted that their VR team’s efforts were directed at a platform that wasn’t financially sustainable.
While Rigden promised that this isn’t necessarily the end forever for VR support, she mentioned that the current VR team is being reassigned to work on other projects. The main reason for this change is to ensure job security for their staff. Although hopes for a future revival remain slim, the focus on maintaining jobs made this a necessary shift.
Here’s a bit of what Rigden shared:
“It’s a tough message to deliver, but we’ve decided to stop supporting PowerWash Simulator VR for now. Our love for and belief in VR hasn’t waned, but we’ve hit a junction where continuing support is unfeasible financially. Consequently, our fantastic VR team has been reassigned to other roles that are more sustainable for us. As much as we want to support PowerWash Simulator across every possible platform, my priority is the job stability of our team. I understand this might be disappointing, but I believe this was the right call.”
The announcement was shared with the PowerWash Simulator community on social media, resonating with fans who have mixed feelings about the decision.
On another note, the standard version of the game continues to thrive, with new content like the Shrek DLC and the upcoming Wallace & Gromit Pack keeping players engaged. Although VR updates had been absent since the release of the Alice’s Adventures Special Pack in June, prior updates included exciting content like Muckingham Files 1 & 2 and crossovers with beloved franchises such as SpongeBob SquarePants and Back to the Future.
For those already enjoying PowerWash Simulator VR and its downloadable content, there’s good news—the game will remain on the Meta Quest platform. FuturLab has confirmed there are no plans to remove them from the store, so players can still dive into their VR cleaning adventures for the foreseeable future.
