In a delightful twist of creativity, a passionate Pokemon enthusiast has brought to life an intriguing regional twist on Rattata and its evolved form, Raticate, by transforming them into Normal/Ghost-type entities. Ever since the regional variants idea was introduced in Pokemon Sun and Moon, fans have taken to redefining the classics. This particular artist has certainly added a splash of imagination to these iconic pocket monsters.
For those who remember the early days of Pokemon Red and Blue, encountering Rattata was almost a rite of passage. These purple, big-toothed mice are among the most recognizable creatures one could catch in the game’s beginnings. Known for its Normal type, Rattata evolves into a slightly fiercer Raticate at Level 20. In a previous update with Pokemon Sun and Moon, they got their Dark/Normal-type twist, sporting slick black fur and distinctively altered whiskers.
But artist Matratzfratz has gone a step further with a pair called Flattata and Raticarcas. These creative spins present a Normal/Ghost-type for Flattata, hinting at Rattata’s unfortunate end on a busy highway, while Raticarcas takes on a more spiritual essence, appearing as if its spirit is slowly emerging from its former self. Fans have showered this imaginative concept with love, awarding it more than 2,200 upvotes as a testament to its originality.
Interestingly, reimagining Pokemon isn’t new for Matratzfratz. A few months prior, they captivated fans with a fresh take on Oddish. In this version, Oddish’s transformation is driven by an infection from leaf miners, evolving into an entirely different Bug/Grass-type creature as the infestation takes over, completely altering its final evolved form.
Continuing their flair for creativity, another of Matratzfratz’s artworks features Ponyta transformed into a Flying-type. Resembling a mythical blend of Pegasus and chariot, this version boasts white fur with striking blue feathers, which earned admiration for its unexpected yet captivating design.
Of course, Matratzfratz isn’t the only one dreaming up new versions of these beloved creatures. Earlier this year, another artist imagined Rattata with a new evolution called Ratiking. This creation was a Normal/Ghost type too, emerging when multiple Raticate weave their tails into an intricate ritual, harnessing new powers to baffle and battle their opponents.
In the unlikely event that you’re new to Pokemon, it’s a franchise that truly needs no introduction, spanning across games, shows, films, books, and much more. Since its creation by Satoshi Tajiri, the series has enchanted millions around the world, proving itself to be an enduring and beloved part of the entertainment universe.
