Pinball enthusiasts and Dungeons & Dragons aficionados are likely to be intrigued by this stunning and, admittedly, rather pricey new pinball machine.
I’ve always had a soft spot for pinball machines—they’re definitely nostalgic, yet they’ve evolved over the years into something even more elaborate. If I’m honest, I’d love to have one in my collection just to save a bit on trips to the arcade. The catch? Owning one, particularly this newly announced official Dungeons & Dragons edition, would mean parting with a significant chunk of change. This impressive machine is from none other than Stern Pinball, recognized as the largest manufacturer of pinball games worldwide.
This machine is an official collaboration with Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast, designed to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the iconic tabletop role-playing game. It whisks players away on a “monumental and thrilling journey” through the Forgotten Realms, featuring classic foes like a red dragon, gelatinous cube, and a menacing lich named Sammaster. Adventurers will also contend with the likes of Xanathar the beholder and an owlbear, exploring locations such as FaerĂ»n’s Arabel and Westgate along the way. Adding to this excitement, you’ll hear familiar voices such as Matthew Mercer, Laura Bailey, and Marisha Ray from Critical Role, alongside Luke Gygax, the son of D&D co-founder Gary Gygax.
But perhaps the most unexpected voice cameo belongs to Gerard Way, yes, the Gerard Way from My Chemical Romance. I’m not quite sure how he ended up involved, but it does make for a quirky conversation starter should you manage to snag one of these machines. That being said, purchasing one might be out of reach for most of us given the hefty price tag.
The Pro edition starts at a steep $7,000. If you opt for the Premium version, the price jumps to $9,700. And for those eyeing the Limited Edition, prepare for a jaw-dropping $13,000, with only 740 units available. It’s undoubtedly a very cool machine, but I think I’ll have to let this one pass.
