After seemingly endless years of anticipation and speculation, Nintendo has finally put rumors to rest by officially announcing the successor to the beloved Switch—behold, the Switch 2.
In a fresh update video, Nintendo gave gamers a sneak peek at the new console. It boasts an impressive larger screen, even surpassing the dimensions of the Switch OLED. Plus, the redesigned Joy-Con controllers are noticeably larger, featuring a handy, small clip on each side that secures them for handheld mode. The console’s kickstand now offers stability to lay it almost flat, making tabletop play more convenient. Importantly, the Switch 2 will be compatible with Switch 1 cartridges and allow for downloaded games, with a launch planned for 2025.
While the video teaser didn’t explicitly mention any game titles, sharp-eyed fans spotted what seems to be a new Mario Kart track. To provide more insights and perhaps some exciting reveals, a dedicated Switch 2 Nintendo Direct presentation will air on April 2, 2025. Following that, Nintendo has arranged hands-on events across the globe, offering fans a chance to experience the magic firsthand. Here’s the lineup as scheduled by Nintendo:
In North America, events are slated for New York from April 4-6, Los Angeles from April 11-13, and both Dallas and Toronto from April 25-27. Over in Europe, gamers can head to Paris from April 4-6, London from April 11-13, and both Milan and Berlin from April 25-27. Finally, Madrid and Amsterdam will host these hands-on events from May 9-11.
Nintendo’s announcement has set the gaming community abuzz, and it seems the wait for the legendary new Mario Kart could finally be coming to an end. Stay tuned, as the gaming world eagerly awaits more details.
