Nintendo Switch enthusiasts in Canada might have to brace themselves for a bit of a wait. According to a recent announcement from Nintendo Canada shared with MobileSyrup, pre-orders for the much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 are being pushed back from the initially planned date of April 9.
The official statement from Nintendo Canada reveals, “Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada won’t kick off on April 9, 2025. This decision comes as we aim to synchronize the pre-order timeline with that of the United States. Stay tuned for more updates. Meanwhile, the launch date remains set for June 5, 2025.”
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard of such a postponement. Just last Friday, a similar announcement was made for the American audience. The rationale given was to “assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions.” This is particularly relevant as the Switch 2 is being manufactured in countries like China and Vietnam, which are directly affected by tariffs imposed by the U.S.
Given the escalating trade tensions between the U.S. and China, these tariffs could very well lead to an increase in prices for the Nintendo Switch 2 in the American market. However, the reason behind Canada experiencing the same delay is slightly more enigmatic. The statement from Nintendo suggests it’s to “align with the timing of pre-orders to be determined in the US,” but doesn’t delve deeper into why this alignment is necessary. It might be an effort to prevent Canadian intermediaries from taking advantage of the situation, or perhaps Nintendo aims to maintain consistency in timing across North America to avoid the perception of favoritism.
If you’re in Canada and were eagerly looking forward to placing your order for the Switch 2 soon, we’d love to hear your thoughts about this delay. How does this shift affect your plans? Share your views with us!
