With the Squid Game frenzy gaining momentum today, exciting updates are rolling out for both Call of Duty Warzone and Black Ops 6, bringing a slew of gameplay enhancements and bug fixes. Perhaps the most striking change fans will notice is the improvement in movement mechanics, making the gameplay faster and smoother than ever. For Zombie enthusiasts, there’s good news as well: the new elemental sword Wonder Weapons have received significant buffs.
One major highlight of Black Ops 6—and its seamless integration with Warzone—is the Omnimovement system. This feature elevates the speed and dynamism of movement with cinematic dives, slides, and strafes. The aim has been smooth, uninterrupted movement, although a few bumps in the road have hindered its potential. Fortunately, today’s FPS game updates have addressed two such issues.
In both Black Ops 6 and Warzone, the patch notes reveal that “all mantle speeds have been increased,” and “doors can now be opened and closed while sprinting.” These changes will make aggressive tactics more fluid, especially benefiting Warzone players who often find themselves scaling large obstacles like structures, rocks, and hillsides.
Meanwhile, Black Ops 6 has undergone a balancing sweep over several scorestreaks. This comes after introducing the new High Roller wildcard, which lets players equip four streaks instead of the usual three.
Some of the freshly designed Black Ops 6 Wonder Weapons on the Citadelle des Morts Zombies map were initially underwhelming in combat. However, thanks to a series of buffs, all four Bastard Sword variations are now more formidable. These elemental swords can strike two enemies in one swing and parry attacks from Amalgam zombies. Specifically, Durandel and Balmung received significant cooldown reductions, providing them a distinct edge, while Caliburn and Solais received modest enhancements.
Beyond the sword enhancements, there are numerous tweaks and fixes, including updates to the main questline and various gameplay elements in Citadelle des Morts. You can check out the full patch notes for Black Ops 6 for more information.
Turning to Warzone, along with the movement improvements, there are a number of bug fixes and a major nerf to the Battle Ready wildcard, which had been generating excessive UAV activity during matches. Now, instead of granting a regular UAV, it offers a Supply UAV that highlights supply boxes nearby, aiding players in securing better gear and ammunition. The Warzone patch notes detail all these changes.
Yet, despite these updates, today’s release doesn’t tackle any improvements to Call of Duty’s anti-cheat system—a lingering issue given the recent surge in hackers, particularly in Ranked Play lobbies.
Coinciding with today’s updates is the kickoff of the Squid Game event, running for the next three weeks. While it introduces limited-time modes and free cosmetics based on the Netflix series, it’s facing criticism due to the premium rewards track that adds another monetization layer to Black Ops 6 and Warzone.
