Minisforum recently unveiled a suite of next-gen products powered by AMD Ryzen processors, highlighting a new MoTD motherboard and a compact Mini PC equipped with the Ryzen 9 9955HX "Fire Range" chip.
During "Japan IT Spring Week," the tech company showcased these innovative AMD-powered devices, focusing on MoTD (Mobile on Desktop) motherboards, Mini PCs, and NAS systems. Let’s delve into the details of these exciting announcements.
Introducing the Minisforum F1FGM MoTD Motherboard
First in line is the F1FGM model, marking the advancement of the MoTD lineup with state-of-the-art processors. This mATX motherboard comes equipped with ample heatsinks on various components such as VRMs, M.2 slots, and the PCH, alongside an IO cover. It effectively takes the baton from its predecessors—the BD770i and BD790i series—ushering in the new Fire Range "Ryzen 9000HX" CPUs.
The MoTD configuration can max out with the AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX, offering a hefty 16 cores and 32 threads built on the Zen 5 architecture. It boasts a robust boost clock of up to 5.4 GHz and a generous 64 MB of L3 cache. Although it runs with a default 55W power, this desktop-worthy mobile chip can be pushed up to 160W on this board, ensuring a premium user experience.
Not limited to just one CPU, the motherboard offers configurations with other processors, including an "X3D" variant. For cooling, users can rely on a vapor chamber baseplate, as mobile CPUs don’t come with an integrated heat spreader (IHS). The VRM setup is a sturdy 13-Phase Duet rail design featuring 60A SPS power stages.
Regarding other technical aspects, this motherboard includes four DDR5 DIMM slots, supporting up to 256 GB with speeds reaching 8000 MT/s. The chipset, named X870M, though crafted for mobile devices, mirrors features of the B850 series. In terms of expansion, it offers two PCIe slots (5.0 x16 and 4.0 x16) and three M.2 slots, including one that supports Gen5x4 speeds. Connectivity options also impress with two SATA III ports, USB4, 5GbE LAN, and Wi-Fi 7, plus two BIOS DEBUG LEDs.
Introducing the Minisforum MS-A2 Mini PC
Next up is the MS-A2 Mini PC, equipped with AMD’s latest Ryzen 9000HX "Fire Range" CPUs. This model extends beyond the MS-A1 series—known for its Ryzen 8000G processors—bringing upgraded IO options like three M.2 slots (one convertible to U.2), a 10 GbE LAN via an SFP+ port, and a PCIe 4.0 x8 slot compatible with a low-profile card.
Unlike its MoTD counterpart, the Mini PC’s motherboard has two SO-DIMM slots, providing a capacity of up to 96 GB and speeds of 5200 MT/s. Connectivity is robust, featuring two USB 3.2 Gen Type-C ports, two USB 3.2 Gen 2, one USB 2.0, dual 10 GbE LAN ports, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.0, and both DP and HDMI outputs.
Minisforum N5 PRO: A Strix-Powered NAS System
Lastly, the N5 PRO steps into the spotlight with a Strix-powered approach. It sports up to an AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 processor featuring 12 cores and 24 threads, complemented by a Radeon 890M iGPU. The NAS offers five 3.5-inch bays, RAID-ready and designed for easy hot-swap operations without needing tools. It supports up to 48 GB of DDR5 SO-DIMMs and includes a PCIe 4.0 x4 slot for video output solutions.
Each bay can accommodate up to 22 TB drives, alongside three PCIe 4.0 M.2 slots (with configurations of 2x Gen4x1 and 1x Gen4x2). For network connectivity and IO, it sports a 10 GbE and a 5 GbE Ethernet port, backed up by three USB 3.2 Gen1 ports.
Minisforum plans to release these exciting new offerings over the coming months, so watch this space for more updates.
