Get ready to protect your competitive rank, because it’s about to vanish next week when the mid-season patch for Marvel Rivals rolls out. In a developer diary update today, NetEase shared that ranks will be reset twice per season: initially at the start and then again halfway through.
The developer explained, “After closely observing and considering various factors, we’ve determined that players’ rankings in the first half of Season 1 best represent their competitive abilities. To better sync with upcoming updates and changes, we’re introducing an additional rank reset.”
On February 21st, prepare to see your rank drop by four divisions. Marvel Rivals features three divisions per rank, except for the elite ranks of Eternity and One Above All. So, if you’re sitting at Gold I, you’ll soon find yourself at Silver II. At the commencement of every new season, your rank will dip by six divisions. NetEase has mentioned they’re ready to tweak this if things get too chaotic as players adjust to their genuine ranks.
Data from RivalsTracker shows that most competitive players hover between Silver I to Gold III. This means a significant number of players will briefly find themselves in the bronze tier after the reset.
If you’ve been aiming for the Blood Shield Invisible Woman skin, you’ll need to reach Gold III by next Friday. After the mid-season patch drops, this skin will be swapped with a new reward. Plus, now you must complete 10 matches to earn it, which prevents high-ranking players from obtaining the reward without participating actively.
This rank reset could have varied impacts depending on the “major balance adjustments” NetEase plans to implement with the patch. Many players have expressed that healers seem overpowered at the moment, while others are simply hoping for improvements to Moon Knight’s ultimate ability. Not to mention, it’ll be interesting to see how matches shift with the introduction of characters like the Thing and Human Torch.
