Computers can be quite irritating, can’t they? Just when you think everything’s running smoothly, an update sneaks in and throws a wrench in the works. That’s exactly what’s happened to some folks playing Ubisoft games on Windows 11. After a recent update, several titles, including the much-anticipated Star Wars Outlaws, suddenly became unplayable.
Gamers started noticing issues shortly after last week’s Windows 11 update, and it turns out the problem isn’t with their PCs. Microsoft has confirmed that the update is causing trouble for some Ubisoft games. In a statement, Microsoft explained that after installing Windows 11 version 24H2, certain Ubisoft games might freeze up, get stuck on a black screen, or become unresponsive during gameplay.
Microsoft has been pretty upfront about which games are affected. The list includes big hitters like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Assassin’s Creed Origins, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Star Wars Outlaws, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
To address the issue, Microsoft has put a hold on updates for devices with these games installed, essentially stopping the Windows 11 version 24H2 update from reaching these PCs. “We recommend that you do not attempt to manually update to version 24H2 using the Windows 11 Installation Assistant or the media creation tool until this issue has been resolved,” they advised.
Meanwhile, Ubisoft has released a temporary hotfix to alleviate the problem. However, they have warned that players might still experience some performance hiccups. They’re working on a permanent fix and will update players when it’s ready. In the meantime, perhaps it’s worth exploring other games in your backlog while waiting for these issues to be ironed out.
