February 2025 is shaping up to be an intriguing month for gamers, even though it’s not packed with major video game releases. Among the few surprises is Keep Driving, a unique driving RPG that’s set to launch. This game blends driving with turn-based battles, letting you collect essential items along the way.
If you haven’t heard of Keep Driving yet, let me fill you in. I had a chance to try out its demo during Steam’s Next Fest last year. It was a delightful mix of challenge and quirk, though I have to admit, I did fall victim to a puddle once! The premise is simple yet enticing—you’re embarking on a road trip to visit a friend’s house. Along the journey, both you and your trusty car must navigate typical travel mishaps, all while ensuring you have enough food and rest to make it.
YCJY Games, a Swedish development team, recently announced via Twitter that the full edition of Keep Driving will hit Steam on PC come February 6. Accompanying this announcement, they’ve also dropped a fresh trailer. The new footage showcases the turn-based battles you’ll face against obstacles like tractors, sheep, and potholes. Plus, it hints at the variety of cars you’ll come across, all of which can be packed with the necessities for you, your car, and any hitchhikers joining your adventure. Personally, while I loved driving a vehicle reminiscent of a Volvo in the demo, the idea of cruising around in a pickup truck definitely appeals to the Johnny Cash fan in me.
Currently, Keep Driving is exclusive to PC. However, one of the developers hinted in a chat that they plan for a console release eventually, though they’re still deciding on which platforms, aside from the Switch. I can’t help but daydream about a PS2 version, just for the sake of nostalgia and swapping between this and Need for Speed Underground.
Until then, I’m eagerly anticipating the full release of Keep Driving, hoping it delivers the same captivating experience the demo first teased.
