Intel’s foray into the desktop GPU market is far from over. Though their “Battlemage” graphics cards are set to hit the market soon, there’s exciting news about the planned launch of their next-generation architectures, “Celestial” and “Druid,” continuing to advance as planned.
### Intel’s Commitment to the Desktop GPU Scene and Future Plans
With the anticipated arrival of Intel’s Battlemage lineup, expected by mid-December, many are speculating on what comes next for Intel’s endeavors in the desktop GPU space. There’s some skepticism owing to Intel’s somewhat erratic business performance and past struggles with GPU launches. However, assuring enthusiasts and investors alike, notable leaker @jaykihn0 has highlighted that Intel remains on course with their upcoming Celestial and Druid graphics cards.
In a tweet that laid to rest some of the swirling doubts, @jaykihn0 clarified that while Intel is strongly positioned with their desktop GPU plans, there seems to be a common mix-up regarding their commitment to laptop versus desktop discrete GPUs (dGPUs).
The leaker further elaborated, revealing that Intel is committed not only to releasing a steady stream of desktop GPUs but also intends to elevate the performance of their integrated laptop GPUs. This is geared towards eventually making them competitive with desktop GPUs, pointing towards Intel’s strategic shift to prioritize mobile solutions while also maintaining a foothold in the dedicated GPU arena.
Moving on to what’s anticipated from Intel’s new offerings, the Celestial lineup is expected to take over from Battlemage with the touted “Xe3” architecture, although specifics remain under wraps for now. Similarly, the Druid series will introduce the “Xe-Next” architecture, forecasting to stack up against GPUs two generations into the future. This clearly indicates that Intel’s desktop GPU ambitions are still in full swing, with plenty more to be unveiled as time goes on.
Presently, the focus is on Intel’s Arc Battlemage products, which are rumored to launch imminently. These will likely shed light on how Intel plans to maneuver and establish itself further in the desktop GPU market.
