Building PCs is a passion of mine, but I totally understand why pre-built gaming desktops have such a strong appeal. They take the headache out of selecting parts and ensuring everything works together, not to mention saving you from the hassle of assembling the whole system. I’m becoming a bigger fan of pre-built systems, especially when you find deals that are hard to resist, like iBuyPower’s Y40 model that’s currently listed at $999.99 at Walmart.
One quick way to gauge if a pre-built gaming PC is worth the investment is to look at the cost of its GPU. In the case of the Y40, it features an RTX 4070 with 12 GB of video memory, a component that alone would cost you upwards of $500 — that’s about half the price of the whole rig. Tack on an AMD Ryzen 7 7700 CPU, which is another $275, and you’ve still got the extra expenses of the motherboard, 16 GB of speedy DDR5 (5,200 MHz) RAM, an all-in-one liquid cooler for the CPU, and a 700 W 80+ Gold power supply. Plus, it even comes bundled with an RGB keyboard and mouse, leaving you only to supply a monitor.
Even though it’s expected that Nvidia and AMD might release new GPUs in 2025, the RTX 4070 in this setup is set to remain a beast in gaming performance for quite some time. It’s capable of handling any game at 1080p, and likely shines at 1440p as well. And when the system starts to age with newer game releases, Nvidia’s DLSS AI upscaling technology will give it a fresh boost by running games at a lower resolution but still delivering a sharp image. This feature doesn’t just maintain visual quality — it enhances gameplay by squeezing extra frames per second out of your GPU, making it a worthwhile addition to your gaming experience.
