Sid Meier’s Civilization VII is about to make its virtual reality debut, arriving exclusively on the Quest 3 and 3S next week.
Brought to life by Playside Studios in collaboration with Meta, this VR adaptation of the iconic strategy game launches on April 10th. It offers players both a solo experience and the chance to compete online with other Quest 3 users.
Much like its counterparts on PC and console, the VR edition challenges you to steer your nation’s course through the ages. You select a leader and decide whether to ally or confront other global forces.
If you’re new to the Civilization series, Civilization VII – VR offers a fresh way to immerse yourself in world-building. You’ll start by choosing an era, each coming with its own distinct hurdles and perks. For instance, in the Antiquity Age, you lay down the initial foundations of your empire. The Exploration Age invites you to discover new territories, while the Modern Age is a sprint towards scientific and industrial advancements.
One of the standout features of the VR version is its immersive ‘War Table.’ This isn’t just a visual gimmick—it’s where strategy enthusiasts can feel like they’re playing an elaborate tabletop game. You can zoom, tilt, and maneuver the table to get the best strategic view of your empire.
Here, interactions with rival civilizations become more engaging, as you come head-to-head with both AI and human competitors. You’ll have opportunities to wield diplomacy, carving out peace agreements, or bracing for epic battles.
Excitingly, the game is available in both virtual and mixed reality modes. The mixed reality option uses passthrough, which means your physical environment becomes a backdrop to your digital escapades.
Pre-orders for Sid Meier’s Civilization VII – VR are open now on the Horizon Store for Quest 3 and Quest 3S, with a price tag of $60.
