EA and Maxis have finally brought a treat for retro Sims enthusiasts in celebration of the series’ 25th anniversary. The much talked-about re-releases of the first two Sims games are indeed happening, and they are available for purchase starting today.
Rumors had been swirling that EA would launch these games digitally on PC by the end of January, and true to word, they’ve done so on January 31—right at the end of the week. They sure know how to cut it close, don’t they?
You can find these re-releases on the EA app, Epic Games Store, and Steam under the names The Sims: Legacy Collection and The Sims 2: Legacy Collection. Plus, they’re bundled together in the Sims 25th Birthday Bundle for extra nostalgia.
EA’s announcement was brimming with enthusiasm as they highlighted their intent to honor the fans that have been with them from the start. They’ve reintroduced two iconic titles filled with beloved characters—like the mischievous burglar, the unpredictable genie, and Sunny the Tragic Clown—that kicked off this incredible community. “Rediscover the nostalgia and magic of the classics that welcomed so many of you into our amazing community,” EA exclaimed.
Now, let’s talk about pricing! If you’re itching to get your hands on both, the bundle costs $39.99. If you’re only interested in individual titles, The Sims: Legacy Collection is priced at $19.99, and The Sims 2: Legacy Collection will set you back $29.99. Most of the original expansion packs are included, except for The Sims 2’s IKEA Home Stuff pack, which sadly didn’t make the cut.
It’s a bit of a letdown, but there are still two different holiday packs included in The Sims 2, along with the H&M Fashion Stuff pack to scratch that corporate tie-in itch. Curiously, these re-releases also come with The Sims 4’s Throwback Fit Kit and Grunge Revival Kit; the former packed in with the first game and the latter with the second. So, if you haven’t nabbed these for the latest Sims iteration yet, it’s a nice little bonus.
So, if you’ve been lounging in the whimsical “meme jacuzzi” section of the quirky Sims Y2K website that EA set up for these celebrations, perhaps it’s time to towel off and dive into these re-releases. They’re sure to spark some nostalgia if you decide to hop back into the delightful chaos of these classic Sims worlds!
