Were you all set to catch Star Wars Skeleton Crew on Disney Plus on December 3? You might want to revise your plans because Disney has decided to surprise us by moving up the release date.
In a recent announcement, Disney revealed that Skeleton Crew will land on its streaming platform a day earlier, now set for a December 2 debut. Admittedly, the shift isn’t exactly massive, and the reasoning might be known only to Disney itself, but let’s roll with it! The good news doesn’t stop there, as the show will kick off with a double-episode premiere. So, if the first episode pulls you in, you won’t have long to wait for the second. Disney also released the list of directors involved in the series’ eight episodes, featuring some recognizable talents.
Starting off, we’ve got Jon Watts—famous for directing the Tom Holland Spider-Man trilogy—tackling both the first and the final episode. Then we have David Lowery, who swings between films like last year’s Peter Pan & Wendy and more artistic ventures such as The Green Knight and A Ghost Story, taking charge of episodes two and three. Episode four will be brought to life by The Daniels, the duo behind the 2022 sensation Everything Everywhere All at Once. Jake Schreier, who’s directing the upcoming Marvel film Thunderbolts, is set for episode five.
Episode six will see Bryce Dallas Howard in the director’s seat; she’s already made her mark on the Star Wars universe with some stellar episodes of The Mandalorian. Episode seven will be directed by Lee Isaac Chun, who also worked on The Mandalorian and had a hand in one of this year’s blockbusters, Twisters.
Skeleton Crew’s storyline invites viewers to follow four kids who stumble upon something unusual on their otherwise secure home planet. Their discovery catapults them into a bizarre and perilous galaxy, where the quest to find their way back home leads to unexpected friendships and foes, unfolding an adventure bigger than they could have anticipated. With Jude Law being the most recognizable face in the mix, the series promises a Spielberg-esque adventure film vibe.
