For fans of Splitgate, excitement is building as the much-anticipated sequel to the viral shooter is now open for playtest sign-ups.
Every so often, a shooter emerges and unexpectedly captures the gaming community’s attention. In 2021, Splitgate was that game. It appeared seemingly out of nowhere, largely thanks to its indefinite beta phase, although it had been simmering in early access for a couple of years before the full release. By the following year, the game officially launched, but 1047 Games, the developers, dropped a bombshell: they would halt new feature development to focus on crafting a sequel using Unreal Engine 5—a thrilling prospect for fans.
This exciting new project was officially unveiled earlier in the year, with an anticipated release in 2025. Fast forward to now, and news from the game’s official Twitter has confirmed that you can sign up for the next playtest.
A tweet announcing the playtest enthusiastically states, “Suit up and get ready for more Splitgate 2! The team’s been cooking up something explosive, and we’re excited to get your feedback.” Signing up is a breeze—just fill out a Google form asking questions like whether you played the first game, recent shooters you’ve enjoyed, and your preferred gaming platform.
However, a quick note: the form asks for your Steam and Discord usernames. This is likely because the testing will occur via these platforms, so if you value your privacy above all, this particular test might not be for you.
Last September, our very own Connor caught up with 1047 Games’ CEO to discuss their innovative approach to keeping the game feeling fresh by taking cues from iconic titles like Halo Reach. If you missed it, it’s definitely worth a read!
