For those eagerly anticipating Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind on the Nintendo Switch, there’s a slight hiccup. The game’s release for this platform has been nudged to December 19, 2024, though originally slated for December 10. Not to worry, though, as it’ll still launch on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox on the earlier date.
2024 has been a bit of a quiet spell for the Power Rangers franchise. Yet, Hasbro and Digital Eclipse stirred excitement when they unveiled this retro-inspired beat-em-up, starring those iconic Teenagers with Attitude, at June’s Summer Games Fest earlier this year.
Drawing on the side-scrolling action and pixel art reminiscent of 90s Power Rangers games, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind spices things up with modern touches like 3D Megazord clashes and rail shooting adventures. Plus, it ties into the events of last year’s Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: Once and Always reunion special. In this storyline, the sinister Robo Rita travels back in time to aid her past in crushing the Power Rangers. Given the current lull in new Power Rangers content, fans are eager to dive into this new journey come December 10.
Despite this small setback for Switch users, developer Digital Eclipse assures players that the delay is due to “unforeseen” issues. They broke the news earlier this week, stating that the Switch launch will now happen on December 19, 2024.
Alongside the release details, it’s noteworthy that the Xbox and Switch versions will initially lack online play due to technical difficulties. However, this won’t hinder local multiplayer, which supports up to five players. Fans can rally as their favorite Rangers or the unlockable Green Ranger in offline co-op or tap into online fun, except for these initial Xbox and Switch limitations.
For half a year now, the loyal fans of the franchise have been eagerly waiting to relive their nostalgia with this new installment. They maintain hope that if Rita’s Rewind does well, it could pave the way for more games based on later Power Rangers sagas. And while Switch users have to exhibit a bit more patience, the excitement remains high for when the game hits all major platforms next month.
In Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind, players confront Robo Rita, a revamped foe seeking to alter history by teaming up with her younger self. Together, they aim to vanquish the Rangers before they truly begin, creating a fascinating twist on past events.
Will these two Ritas finally achieve what they’ve long desired, or will the Rangers stand their ground against this time-bending threat? This release promises to let players re-experience the origins of the Power Rangers in a whole new light, ensuring the past is never quite what it seems.
