Days Gone Remastered is set to introduce an exciting new element to gameplay with its Horde Assault mode, promising an additional 10 hours of thrilling experiences and over 20 weapons to explore. This feature will be coupled with game modifiers and rewards, enhancing and diversifying the player’s experience.
The details about Horde Assault, a major addition in the upcoming remaster, were recently revealed. In addition to Horde Assault, Days Gone Remastered, which is hitting shelves on April 25, 2025, will also bring new challenges like Permadeath and Speedrun modes.
Originally released exclusively for the PS4 in 2019, Days Gone didn’t exactly set the world on fire initially but has developed a strong cult following over the years. Fans of the game have been vocal about wanting a sequel, making pleas to Sony that have yet to be answered. But earlier in 2025, they were granted a ray of hope with the announcement of a PS5-exclusive remaster during the State of Play livestream. With Bend Studio at the helm, Days Gone Remastered is soon to offer not just upgraded visuals but a treasure trove of bonus content.
Bend Studio took to the PlayStation Blog to detail how the new Horde Assault mode is gearing up to expand Days Gone’s runtime. Players will face off against increasingly difficult waves of Reachers, Breakers, and Rager bears, aiming for the highest score possible. A veritable arsenal, including a flamethrower and 24 Injectors, are at your disposal. Intriguing Injectors like “Exploding Freakers,” which make Freakers burst upon death, and the “Wanted” Injector, which cranks up the difficulty level from the start, promise to keep things challenging. A newly released trailer focuses vividly on Horde Assault, featuring beloved characters like Deacon and Boozer up to their necks in action-packed chaos.
Starting in Days Gone’s Cascade region, Horde Assault initially limits players to a lone sidearm. However, as they progress, they gain access to the Drifter bike, unlocking the ability to hunt down Supply Boxes for random weapon rewards. This mode also brings in Side Jobs that reward players for completing them with resources and added XP. Players can progress through a 35-level reward path, unlocking various Injectors, character skins, and even iconic characters such as O’Brian, Lisa, and Skizzo. Bend Studio has hinted at a highly sought-after bike-related reward, sparking fan curiosity.
With Days Gone Remastered’s PS5 launch just around the corner, anticipation is building. Although the remaster is a PlayStation exclusive, PC players aren’t left out in the cold. They can get their hands on these stunning new features through the Broken Road DLC, set to launch simultaneously for PC players.
Days Gone Remastered may very well offer the franchise a chance to refine its first impression, catering to its loyal fanbase while attracting new players with its enhanced features and immersive gameplay.
