In an exciting development for the gaming industry, Boston-based studio The Molasses Flood has officially joined forces with CD Projekt Red, a well-known name in Polish game development. The news, confirmed on The Molasses Flood’s website, indicates that as of April 1st, the studio will no longer operate independently but will instead become part of the team behind the popular Cyberpunk 2077. Reassuring fans, The Molasses Flood clarified that this merger won’t impact its existing games, The Flame in the Flood and Drake Hollow, which it developed prior to its 2021 acquisition by CD Projekt. Currently, the studio is focused on an intriguing project called Project Sirius, which is envisioned as a multiplayer game set in the universe of The Witcher.
However, with these changes, there’s a bittersweet update as well. Damian Isla, the founder of The Molasses Flood, has decided to step away from the studio. Reflecting on his journey, he expressed his feelings on LinkedIn, acknowledging the significance of this transition.
“Undoubtedly, this marks a major shift,” he shared. “The Molasses Flood has played a pivotal role in my life for over a decade. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished, enduring in an industry that can be quite tough on smaller teams like ours. We’ve crafted some truly special, unique experiences, and I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with some of the most gifted and kind-hearted individuals in gaming.”
