Over the past week, a wave of convincing leaks has flooded the internet, showcasing what might be the final design of the much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2. The buzz reached its peak yesterday when Dbrand unexpectedly dropped a complete 3D render of the Nintendo Switch 2, featuring a version of its Killswitch carrying case revamped for the new device. In a candid chat with The Verge, Dbrand’s CEO, Adam Ijaz, revealed that the company accessed the actual dimensions of the Switch 2 through a 3D scan, revealing it to be about 270mm wide with Joy-Cons (200mm without), 116mm tall, and 14mm thick.
The leaked images suggest that the Nintendo Switch 2 flaunts a larger 8-inch display, a noticeable step up from the 7.2-inch screen on the Switch OLED and the 6.2-inch on the original Switch. An additional “C” button, possibly for capturing, is now on the right Joy-Con. The Joy-Con controllers are said to attach magnetically and feature a more pronounced curve, plus there are USB-C ports on both the top and bottom. Excitingly, it includes a robust U-shaped kickstand, reminiscent of the improved stand seen on the Switch OLED.
All indications point towards an evolved Switch 2, shedding the OLED screen in favor of a 1080p IPS LCD, which we hope will surpass the quality of the current LCD. With a projected launch in Q1 2025, this new design seems ready to make a grand entrance.
When it comes to Dbrand’s Killswitch case for the Switch 2, it takes a different approach from previous models. Unlike full-body enclosures with enhanced kickstands as seen with the Steam Deck, this design considers the detachable Joy-Cons, allowing the body to separate into sections. A striking teal bungee cord keeps everything intact, reflecting Dbrand’s respected prowess in crafting protective gear for gadgets.
We sense your longing for a straightforward glimpse at the Nintendo Switch 2. While nothing concrete is available yet, the leaked specs shared by Dbrand align with a 3D-printed mock-up sent to the YouTube channel SwitchUp earlier this week, offering a sneak peek at the anticipated device’s look and feel.
This major leak from Dbrand, a move allowed by their presumably non-NDA status, hints that an official announcement and launch date reveal for the Switch 2 isn’t far off. Historically, Nintendo has mentioned releasing the Switch 2 by the end of 2024, with confirmed details promised by March 2025. With less than three months remaining, the timing is ripe for case makers like Dbrand to start stirring excitement and gearing up for the next flagship in Nintendo’s hybrid lineup.
