Bossa Games, a gaming company based in London, has recently had to let some of its employees go, but the exact number remains undisclosed. This difficult decision was shared by Henrique Olifiers, the co-CEO and co-founder of the studio, in a LinkedIn post. The timing of these layoffs coincides with preparations for the launch of their anticipated game, Lost Skies.
Olifiers explained that once Lost Skies is out and operational, Bossa plans to reorganize into smaller teams. The intention behind this shift is to facilitate the creation and release of more games in the coming years. He emphasized their commitment to ensuring that Lost Skies launches successfully and continues to engage players long into the future.
Olifiers candidly shared, “We’ve had to scale back to concentrate on finishing Lost Skies, making sure it launches smoothly and evolves for our players. Once we’re up and running, we’ll pivot to smaller, independent teams that can bring new game concepts to life quickly.”
Acknowledging the personal impact, Olifiers added, “This means saying very difficult goodbyes to some incredibly talented and valued team members who have been with us on this journey. It’s a tough reality that we couldn’t find another way through this challenging period without having to reduce our team size.”
Bossa had to lay off about a third of its workforce at the beginning of 2024. This step highlights the challenging landscape that game studios often navigate amidst major project milestones.
