Five months into its release, we can confidently say that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has cemented its place as one of the franchise’s most polished entries, with the Zombies mode especially standing out. At launch, players were introduced to two intriguing maps: Liberty Falls, designed for newcomers, and Terminus, crafted for veterans keen on the horde mode. Both maps were impressively rich, teeming with Easter eggs, Wonder Weapons, and Perks. Not long after, two more maps, Citadelle des Morts and The Tomb, expanded the experience further with their unique contributions.
As we approach Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Season 3, anticipation builds for what promises to be a thrilling new addition to the Zombies lineup. Named ‘Shattered Veil,’ this fresh map invites players to delve into the mysterious, enemy-infested mansion of Edward Richtofen. Besides the standard threats and mini-bosses, fans can look forward to the return of a much-missed Perk that’s set to make a significant impact on gameplay.
After nearly a decade, the revered Double Tap Perk makes a triumphant return to Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies. Its reintroduction, scheduled for April 3 with the release of Season 3, will kick off in the new Shattered Veil map and be rolled out to all existing Zombies maps in the game.
For the uninitiated, the Double Tap Perk notably accelerates shooting speed, allowing players to cut through foes at a heightened pace, though it demands more ammunition. This feature directly addresses one of Black Ops 6’s more pressing challenges.
A notable issue within Black Ops 6 Zombies is its mini-boss design. Characters like Manglers, Abominations, and Amalgams, while visually impressive and challenging, tend to soak up bullets excessively, especially in the later stages where they appear en masse.
The reliance on Wonder Weapons and Scorestreaks for taking down these tough adversaries is common. However, with Double Tap’s increased fire rate, regular weaponry might finally manage these encounters effectively. Additionally, the Perk’s new Major and Minor augmentations are poised to enhance this even further:
Major Augments:
- Double Jeopardy: Low-health zombies have a chance to instantly perish when hit.
- Double Impact: Consecutive hits amplify damage.
- Double Standard: Non-critical shots with standard bullets inflict double damage.
Minor Augments:
- Double Time: Boosts fire rate.
- Double Play: Rapid kills of two foes can return two ammo rounds.
- Double or Nothing: Weapons have a chance for double damage, or potentially none.
The Double Tap Perk is a beloved feature among the community. While Black Ops 6 did reintroduce staple Perks like Juggernog, Speed Cola, and Quick Revive at launch, fans lamented the absence of other favorites. Even with post-launch additions like Vulture Aid and Death Perception, the latter was received with mixed reactions. On the contrary, Double Tap has been eagerly awaited since its last appearance in 2015. Its reappearance in Shattered Veil is a notable victory for players, sparking hope that another cherished Perk, Mule Kick, might be on the horizon.
