Virtual reality enthusiasts have eagerly embraced “Blade & Sorcery” (2024) as their go-to combat simulation, celebrating its comprehensive 1.0 release back in June. However, the brains behind the game, Warpfrog, are not resting on their laurels. In fact, they’re already gearing up for their next project, which they promise will offer the same degree of modding potential that made their physics-driven combat game a hit.
Although the details are still under wraps, Warpfrog assured Road to VR that their next endeavor will also be a VR game. It will carry the signature traits of their previous works, featuring physics-based interactions and a strong focus on simulation.
The studio has also confirmed that this new title will be just as moddable as “Blade & Sorcery.” For fans of the game, this is exciting news—after all, “Blade & Sorcery” supports extensive modding, both manually and with Nexus Mod Manager. This flexibility allows users to tweak minor details, like added sparks during weapon clashes, or to introduce completely new user-generated maps and weapons, thus creating fresh gaming experiences.
Last October, Warpfrog spoke with Meta about the next game, revealing they are integrating an all-new framework. This decision arose from pushing the limits of their previous framework throughout the extended early access phase of “Blade & Sorcery.”
They explained, “We’ve got to streamline some of our past code and scale up. Basically, we’re building a new framework from scratch that will work with a new engine. Our aim is to make something that’s tailor-made for our growing team. For the first time, we’re developing a game from start to finish as a complete unit.”
Expectations are sky-high for Warpfrog’s upcoming work. Once a solo project driven by developer ‘KospY’, the team has now expanded to nearly 30 members.
The recent 1.0 update in June was a game-changer for “Blade & Sorcery,” introducing the ‘Crystal Hunt’ story mode. This update has transformed the game from just a visceral melee combat sandbox into a full-fledged adventure game complete with upgrade mechanics, narratives, and a larger, more interconnected world.
In a Steam news update, Warpfrog expressed their excitement for the studio’s future: “Now, this is where things get interesting… Armed with the knowledge and experience from the past five years, we’re eager to show you what’s next in development. Your support has fueled our growth, allowing us to create even bigger and better games.”
