Last Thursday, Bigscreen experienced an unexpected surge in orders for their latest PC VR headset, the Beyond 2. Excitingly, the company shared that this new model outsold the original version in just 24 hours, equating its first-day sales to six months’ worth of sales for the Beyond 1.
The launch of Beyond 2 was marked by some astonishing numbers. In less than half an hour, it eclipsed the entire first-day sales of its predecessor. Within the first hour, sales figures were already double compared to the launch of Beyond 1. The first 10 hours saw more units sold than during the initial four months of Beyond 1’s release.
Bigscreen’s founder and CEO, Darshan Shankar, highlighted the most striking statistic in a post on X: “In the first 24 hours, Beyond 2 has sold 10 TIMES the amount of Beyond 1 sold on its launch day two years ago. In the first 24 hours, Beyond 2 has matched what Beyond 1 achieved in its first six months of sales. That’s exceptional.”
Interestingly, Shankar mentioned that these impressive numbers were achieved without spending on advertisements. “We didn’t engage influencers to promote our product, nor did we hire an agency for a costly video. No advertising,” he pointed out.
Bigscreen did, however, give a few early Beyond 2 units to reviewers, offering a total of about 10 units. Notable reviewers included Tested, Thrillseeker, MRTV, and VR Flight Sim Guy.
If you haven’t caught up with the news yet, here are the specifics: Beyond 2 is available in two versions. There’s one with eye-tracking, known as Beyond 2e, priced at $1,219, and another without, priced at $1,019. This new iteration retains the dual 1-inch 2,560 × 2,560 micro-OLED displays of its predecessor but boasts significant improvements. The headset now features a larger field-of-view (FOV) and improved clarity thanks to a new pancake lens design. The Beyond 2 offers a 116-degree diagonal FOV, an upgrade from the original’s 102-degree, and incorporates an adjustable IPD mechanism within a lighter, more comfortable 107g frame.
Initial shipments were slated for April for the Beyond 2 and May for the Beyond 2e. However, as of this writing, new orders for both models are now expected to ship in June.
