Independent gaming platform itch.io has some exciting news; they’ve lined up another Creator Day happening on November 29, as per Engadget. On this particular day, every penny you spend will go straight to the developers, as itch.io will be waiving its usual 10% share of the revenue.
This time, Creator Day conveniently lands during itch.io’s popular Autumn Sale, spanning from November 27 to December 5. It’s a big event, boasting contributions from the site’s expansive community, with over 7,400 projects up for grabs. This includes a mix of digital and physical games, alongside plenty of resources for those interested in game development.
The concept of Creator Day came to life in 2021, a thoughtful initiative by itch.io to offer extra support to developers facing financial challenges during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We receive incredible support from our community throughout the year, and we wanted to dedicate a day to give something back,” itch.io’s director of business and content, Spencer Hayes, shared with Polygon at the time. “Times have been tough for many, and we wanted to contribute in any way we could.”
Itch.io already stands out in the gaming world for its favorable revenue model, where developers get 90% of the earnings—a considerably better deal compared to other platforms like Steam or the Apple App Store. But initiatives like Creator Day and their frequent charity drives truly make itch.io shine in a crowded marketplace.
