For those of us who absolutely love diving into games that allow us to explore vast unknowns, there’s nothing quite like a good sci-fi adventure. It makes sense, doesn’t it? Sci-fi naturally gives us a buffet of different worlds to dive into. But here’s the catch: it’s all about finding the right balance. Nobody wants to be floating through an empty galaxy for hours on end just because it’s huge. We also don’t want a barrage of mindless tasks just to create the illusion of a busy universe. However, when game developers strike that perfect equilibrium, it can lead to one epic adventure. And today, we’re hoping that balance has been achieved in the latest offering from Atypical Games, published by Gaijin Entertainment: Cubic Odyssey.
Now, what exactly is Cubic Odyssey about? It kicks off with you crash landing on a distant planet’s surface. From that point forward, you’re tasked with gathering resources, refining those materials, and constructing everything ranging from tools and outposts to impressive vehicles and, yes, the very starships that will allow you to freely explore the galaxy.
In Cubic Odyssey, every star glistening in the night sky is the centerpiece of a star system brimming with explorable planets. On these planets, you’ll find diverse ecosystems and evolving day-night cycles. But that’s not all: these worlds house bustling cities filled with NPCs, rogue pirate outposts, and mysterious ruins yearning to be explored. Your grand quest? To halt the spread of the Red Darkness, a devastating galactic infection that corrupts wildlife, devours planets, and spells doom for all living creatures.
This game promises seamless travel — whether you’re on the ground, soaring through the skies, or drifting through the cosmos. You’ll be able to perform warp jumps between star systems and dash across planets at high speed. On land, you can zoom over alien landscapes on speeders or delve into hidden terrain on foot. It’s designed to adapt to whatever exploration style suits you best.
And for those who prefer not to adventure alone, Cubic Odyssey offers the option of a co-op mode. Join forces with other explorers to tackle massive foes, execute orbital strikes, or even construct enormous cooperative mega-structures. In short, if you’re looking to share this experience with friends, the game has got you covered.
“We aim to forge a limitless open world where every planet, every star system, and every scenario is yours to shape,” remarks Andrei Lopata, CEO of Atypical Games in Bucharest.
Cubic Odyssey seems poised to be a huge hit, especially for those who can never have enough on their plate. If you’re eager to explore the mysterious vastness of space, you’ll be excited to hear that this title is slated for release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X later this year. Stay tuned for more updates as we edge closer to its grand launch.
