So, it looks like the days of snagging Nintendo Switch Online perks for free are coming to a close.
If you’re a fan of the Nintendo Switch, there’s some news you might not be thrilled about. One of the platform’s beloved features is wrapping up soon, coinciding with the re-release of “Xenoblade Chronicles X”. What’s more, another feature won’t carry over to the anticipated Switch 2.
In a recent announcement, Nintendo shared that the My Nintendo Gold program will cease operations on March 25 at 12:59 a.m. ET. This program has been popular because it credited users with 1% of eShop value on physical first-party games during their first year after release, and 5% on all eShop purchases automatically. However, there’s an exception: physical games released between March 25, 2024, and their one-year mark will still qualify, covering titles from “Endless Ocean: Luminous” to “Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition”. Unfortunately, games like “Pokemon Legends: Z-A” and “Metroid Prime 4: Beyond” won’t make the cut.
Moreover, important updates have come through regarding Switch Online Vouchers. The support page now indicates that these vouchers won’t be usable for Switch 2 titles. Normally, Nintendo Switch Online subscribers could buy these voucher pairs at $99 US (or equivalent) and redeem them for first-party games. Don’t worry, though—the vouchers are sticking around for new releases on the original Switch, which includes titles like “Legends Z-A” and “Prime 4”.
