Earlier this week, Steel Wool Studios revealed that Five Nights at Freddy’s: Secret of the Mimic will hit shelves for PS5 and PC on June 13th. However, there’s been a stir in the community as all references to PSVR 2 support have quietly vanished from their announcements, prompting a wave of curiosity among fans.
At PAX West 2024, the game was initially showcased as a playable demo for PSVR 2. It seemed set to be an intriguing hybrid for both virtual reality and traditional screen players, aiming to merge different gaming experiences under one title.
Since its founding in 2012, Steel Wool Studios has built a reputation for crafting VR-centric games. After a significant $5 million injection from HTC in 2016, they delivered titles like Hello Neighbor Search and Rescue (2023), FNAF: Help Wanted (2019), and its follow-up, FNAF: Help Wanted 2 (2024).
Despite the recent announcement of the release date for the latest FNAF installment, any mention of PSVR 2 support has been meticulously omitted from marketing materials. This is also evident on the PlayStation Store page for FNAF: Secret of the Mimic, where previously archived versions suggested VR compatibility, which now seems scrubbed.
Interestingly, PSVR 2 support was briefly indicated via an official PlayStation post when the release date was announced on February 12th, a post that has since disappeared without a trace.
Steel Wool Studios is yet to offer clarity on the VR compatibility status for PSVR 2 or even for the PC editions set to launch on the Epic Games Store and Steam. This leaves many questioning if VR support might be introduced later, or if another strategy is in play.
We’ve reached out to Steel Wool Studios seeking answers, though they have yet to respond. Rest assured, we’ll keep you posted should any new information come to light regarding a possible delay in VR mode or the overall release approach.
