Star Wars Outlaws didn’t exactly have the smoothest of debuts when it launched back in August. Alongside receiving lukewarm reviews from critics, the game was bedeviled by several technical problems, ranging from minor visual glitches to outright game-breaking bugs. One particularly notorious glitch forced some PS5 users to delete their save files to address severe technical issues, erasing their progress and sending them back to square one.
Fast forward a few months, and we’re seeing a significant turnaround. Ubisoft has been attuned to player feedback, diligently rolling out updates that steadily enhance the Star Wars Outlaws experience. But all previous fixes pale next to the latest Title Update, which has introduced an array of enhancements and features that address many of the core complaints players have had with the game.
Have a look at Star Wars Jedi: Survivor on the PS5 Pro, for instance. Many titles have gotten updates for this console, but Star Wars Jedi: Survivor seems to have missed a golden opportunity this time.
The newest update to Star Wars Outlaws, Version 1.4.0, has introduced some compelling improvements, particularly to its contentious stealth mechanics. Prior to this update, players faced the frustrating prospect of immediate mission failure if spotted during stealth missions. Now, those missions won’t end so abruptly, allowing for more fluid gameplay as you explore areas under syndicate control. Additionally, the update brings in a revamped detection system. Players now receive notifications when enemies begin to notice them, and there’s a handy visual cue alerting them if a planned takedown might catch another guard’s attention. They’ve even fine-tuned how whistling works, ensuring it no longer draws just one guard.
Combat sees its share of improvements too. Weakpoints on enemies are now a thing, encouraging strategic aiming to trigger specific death animations when these areas are hit. Kay’s blaster has been tweaked for better control, with changes to recoil and spread, making precise shots more rewarding. Moreover, headshots now dish out more damage. Enemy AI has had a makeover, making adversaries more tactical as they use cover more effectively and react to nearby explosions.
They’ve not overlooked the weapon mechanics either. Now, while cruising on a speeder or engaged in climbing and grappling, Kay can put away two-handed weapons, adding to the gameplay’s fluidity.
And let’s not forget the visual overhaul. The game initially drew criticism for its sometimes murky visuals, especially during dialogue. The latest update sets this right by improving facial animations and refining cinematic visuals, making the game a feast for the eyes during those critical narrative moments.
To top off all these enhancements, Star Wars Outlaws has rolled out its first story-based DLC, ‘Wild Card’. This exciting addition sees Kay Vess joining forces with Lando Calrissian for a thrilling ride as they aim to win a high-stakes Sabacc tournament.
If these updates don’t entice you to jump into Star Wars Outlaws, the new DLC just might be your calling. The game invites players to explore the Star Wars universe like never before, blending iconic and novel elements across open-world environments. From the thrill of high-stakes missions and strategic maneuvering against the galaxy’s crime syndicates to piloting exhilarating space battles, this game promises an engaging ride through the galaxy if you’re willing to embrace the risks.
