Devolver Digital returned to its usual antics today with the Devolver Delayed Awards, a pre-recorded “awards” show all about highlighting three games that are being pushed back to 2025.
The event comes packed with Devolver’s distinctive wit, as they humorously applauded their developers for having “the courage and determination to delay their games into the next fiscal year.” Here are the games that were celebrated, along with their (imaginary) contenders:
– Best Inadvertent Tripping Simulator
– Best Late-Stage Capitalism Roguelite
– Best Glass Demon in a Leading Role
Alongside these fun and fictitious categories—which sound oddly enticing, by the way, like the Windshield Repair Simulator—Devolver also featured statements from the developers of the actual delayed titles, all now pegged for a 2025 release. A quick note for fans: Sam Eng of Skate Story fame has broken his arm, so let’s give them some slack on the release dates.
Devolver pulled a similar stunt in 2023, offering a playful nod to the Nintendo Direct format. Last year, their Delayed Showcase cheerfully announced pushed timelines for games such as The Plucky Squire, Stick It to the Stickman, Anger Foot, Pepper Grinder, and Skate Story.
Though these delays might be tough from a business angle, it’s heartening to witness Devolver granting developers the space they need to fully realize their visions, rather than pressing for incomplete releases for quick profits.
Their official site also teases other awaited titles like Possessor(s), Tenjutsu, Human Fall Flat 2, and Forestrike, all of which are still awaiting their official debut dates. Sounds like there are plenty of surprises still in store!
